Laugh at the cold at FestivIce, a two-day winter-be-damned festival held on the Brooks Robinson Plaza at Santander Stadium in York. The event gets underway tonight from 5-9pm with music from Yukon Cornelius & the Bumbles (aka singer/songwriter Mark DeRose). Tomorrow, the action picks back up at 12pm with a Polar Beach Party featuring music from B-Tropical. Foodstruck sponsors foodtrucks both days.
Last call for Farm Show (Harrisburg)
If you haven’t made it to the Farm Show Complex yet for the 99th running of the PA Farm Show, this is your last chance. The nine-day agricultural bonanza wraps up tomorrow, so go get you one of those damn milkshakes everyone keeps talking about. Of course, there are other fun things to watch, like the Tractor Square Dance, or the Celebrity Cow Milking Contest.
Stage Door Series presents 1984 (Harrisburg)
The dystopian future described in George Orwell’s acclaimed novel 1984 comes to life on stage at Gamut Classic Theatre in Harrisburg tonight through January 24. We haven’t been able to confirm whether or not Big Brother will be in attendance, but our hunch is that he will. He might even be watching us now. Performances are at 7:30pm tonight and tomorrow night. Gamut utilizes a BYOP ticket policy – Bring your own payment. (The voice in the loudspeaker advises you tip the cast more than usual.)
If you’re a craft beer fan – especially if you’re a self-described hop head – you probably have already heard the news: Tröegs Nugget Nectar has arrived! New this year, Tröegs has released the hopped up amber ale in 16-ounce cans. Which is cool. So yeah, be on the lookout for Nugget Nectar this weekend. And drink responsibly – these suckers creep up on you…
Saturday marks the second leg of the craft beer festival Hibrewnation winter trifecta, this time at the Allstar Complex in Gettysburg. With more than 80 craft brews for the sampling, Hibrewnation is a craft beer fan’s winter oasis. Hibrewnation is produced by CrocodileDog Marketing – the brains behind the Taste of Pennsylvania Wine & Music Festival, Yorktoberfest and the Treasure Island beer garden at Foodstruck. The event finishes its winter sweep on February 7 in York.
Grilled cheese & craft beer pairing (Harrisburg)
No need for one of those pretzel necklaces at this beer fest. Federal Taphouse in Harrisburg hosts a Grilled Cheese & Craft Beer Pairing event on Saturday in the upstairs barroom. Reps from eight breweries – including Tröegs, Victory, Great Lakes and Helltown – are on hand, each pouring a seasonal brew paired with a different take on the classic grilled cheese sammich. Proceeds from the event benefit the Central PA Food Bank.
Seafood & craft beer pairing (Lancaster)
Spring House Taproom hosts an oceanic food festival on Saturday starting at 12pm featuring oyster sandwiches, steamed clams, steamed shrimp, seafood bisque, shrimp salad and more. Wash it all down with one of Spring House’s house beers – I recommend the new Lexicon Devil Grapefruit Pale Ale, which packs a surprising amount of tarty, pucker-inducing grapefruit flavor balanced out with a hefty helping of Citra hops.
Barrel aged craft brew party (Harrisburg)
The ladies at Stouts and Stilettos are hosting a tasty tasting party tomorrow night at Sturges Speakeasy in Harrisburg. The Barrel Aged Party kicks off at 5pm and promises to feature Deschutes Abyss imperial stout, Deschutes Black Butte XXVI barrel-aged porter, Blue Mountain Brewing Local Species Belgian strong pale ale and more.
Music benefit concert at Tellus360 (Lancaster)
Lancaster musicians and brothers Leo DiSanto (frontman of bluegrass five-piece Vinegar Creek Constituency) and Nick DiSanto (the one-man band) host a benefit concert to raise money to help offset costs for their dad’s medical recovery. The concert goes down at Tellus360 in Lancaster and features VCC, The Slackwater News, The Brothers DiSanto, Inca Campers, Dave Lefever and more. Doors open at 6pm.
