Three picks for what to do in Central PA on Wednesday, August 5.
1) Blood, Sweat & Beer documentary at Tellus360 (Lancaster)
Chronicling the exponential growth of the craft beer scene happening across the country, Blood, Sweat & Beer is a 71-minute feature documentary that follows the journeys of two start-up breweries as they struggle to make a name for themselves, including The Brew Gentlemen Beer Company in Braddock, just outside of Pittsburgh. Filmmaker Alexis Irvin is on hand to talk about the movie during a Q&A session. And while you’re at it, try one of the several craft brews on Tellus360’s taps like Wacker Kolsch, St. Boniface Pilsner and Starr Hill Grateful Pale Ale. The movie starts at 7 p.m., and the event is free.
2) Très Bonne Année Happy Hour at the Hilton Harrisburg (Harrisburg)
Members of SaraBozich.com have teamed up with Très Bonne Année – the nonprofit raising funds for arts and culture projects in Central PA – for a special happy hour at the Hilton Harrisburg patio from 5:30-8 p.m. The event features a welcome cocktail, free wine tastings, complimentary hors d’oeuvres. The first 50 attendees receive two tickets to Whitaker Center Digital Cinema, and you can also enter to win two tickets to Très Bonne Année Grand Wine Tasting on October 9. Happy hour is free to attend.
3) Max J Variety Show at the Chameleon Club (Lancaster)
Justin Wohlfeil and Kyle Paradise have been holding down the fort in the Lizard Lounge at the Chameleon Club on the first Wednesday of every month for several years as part of the Max J Variety Show. Part comedy, part music – the variety show features everything from funny videos and the “Sack of Justice” to bands and DJ Prophet Smiles spinning obscure tunes. This month’s installment is titled “Tropical Adventure” and includes live performances from Whats Her Face, The Exploder and “Lil Rod” (not to be confused with “Big Rod”). The show starts at 10 p.m. and is free to attend.
