Three picks for what to do in Central PA on Wednesday, July 8.
1) The Glorious Sons at the Chameleon Club (Lancaster)
Some of us might still be recovering from all the July 4 hullaballoo, but our neighbors to the north have arrived to outdo us. More accurately, up-and-coming blue-collar indie rock powerhouses, The Glorious Sons, are taking the Chameleon Club by storm tonight. Their strong beats and country-adjacent vocals are backed up by booming choruses that translate easily to harder numbers; it’s no wonder these folks will be playing with names like Halestorm, 10 Years, the Black Keys, and even Daughtry in the coming weeks. Hell, when they return to PA on October 10, they’re playing with Rob Zombie and Korn. Talk about versatility. Catch ’em now so you can say you were a fan before most Americans thought they were cool. Tickets are $12.00 plus processing fee, and the amps are plugged in at 7p.m.
2) Dogfish Head Ancient Ales Night at the Bulls Head Public House (Lititz)
Beer has been an integral part of the human experience for many millennia – possibly since 16000 B.C.E., according to a site in Upper Egypt – and it has drastically changed in that time. The Dogfish Head Brewery aims to bring back ancient ales – brews made by reconstructing recipes that are thousands of years old. Tonight from 5-7p.m., the folks at the Bulls Head will be serving up half of their ancient ale selections, including their original ancient ale Midas Touch, a dry and sweet brew made with barley malt and honey. If that’s not enough, they’ll also be tapping Dogfish Head’s American Beauty, a beer made to celebrate the Grateful Dead. Goodies like glassware and other great stuff will be available in addition – why not grab one?
Open Mic Night at Spring Gate Vineyard (Harrisburg)
Spring Gate Vineyard’s Wednesday super-chill open mic night just got a little more interesting. Starting today, every intrepid performer gets 2 free glasses of wine for treating the crowd to their good vibes and great tunes. From 6:30 – 8:30p.m., if you’ve got an acoustic guitar and a dream, check this event out. If you have neither an acoustic guitar nor dreams, why not grab some wine and chill out to the tunes?
