Three picks for what to do in Central PA on Tuesday, August 18.
1) The Beach Boys at the American Music Theatre (Lancaster)
Update: this event is now sold out. Don’t lie. We know damn well you wore out your copy of “Pet Sounds” twice and had to get a new one. You’re in luck – the Beach Boys are playing at AMT tonight, and, if you hurry, you just might be able to grab one of the few tickets still left. They’re $70 and the show starts at 8 p.m., but a word to the wise: get there all kinds of early if you want to park in the AMT lot, or plan on parking elsewhere.
2) Miranda Sings at Kewsick Theatre (Glenside)
Update: This show is now sold out. If you’ve been on the Internet for any substantial length of time, you know the smear of red lipstick and nasally “hey guys” that signals the arrival of Miranda Sings, the prudish and supremely quirky YouTube character created by comedian Colleen Ballinger Evans. Everything from her personal vlogs to her explanation of Easter is apex weird (and well-viewed), epitomizing Ballinger’s schtick. Tonight, you can see the jokester behind the world’s weirdest song covers and music video redos live and in color. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets range from $32.50-75.
3) Open Mic Jam with Street Scene at 551 West (Lancaster)
There’s nothing like a little casual jamming in front of a bunch of total strangers to shake off the workday. Tonight at 8 p.m., stop by 551 West to jam along with Street Scene. While you’re there, you can always grab a bottle or six.
