Thursday 3 on 3: Jess Klein, Improv 101, & an Open Mic

Three picks for what to do in Central PA on Thursday, August 27.

1) Summer Concert Series: Jess Klein at the Farmers Market in Hershey (Hershey)

Rochester, NY-born singer-songwriter Jess Klein has been making music since high school, and it shows. Her powerful voice coupled with honest, raw lyrics carries her songs; her skillful guitar playing backs her up, binding the song together like a book. Sound like your kind of thing? She’s playing the Farmers Market in Hershey tonight from 6-8 p.m., and it’s free.

2) Improv 101 at HMAC (Harrisburg)

A little improv comedy is a great way to close out the week, right? HMAC is hosting a free Improv 01 session tonight – but this one is a little special. Dig up your strangest wigs and find the Groucho Marx glasses; this edition of Improv 101 is a costume party in celebration of Zach of HMAC’s birthday. The doors open at 7 p.m., if you wantto ; be there by 9 p.m., when the laughs start rolling.

3) Open Mic at the Alley Kat (Lancaster)

Getting an itch to play some tunes of your own? Grab an instrument and head on over to the Alley Kat. From 9 p.m.-12 a.m., enjoy this open mic (and, you know, some pizza). Added incentive? There’ll be a house band backing you up; Gabe Staznik will be on drums, Dave Sheaffer will be on base, and Steve Davis will be on guitar. Get ready to groove.

Want more? You don’t have to wait ’til 3 p.m. to check out FLY’s live music, bar entertainment and performing arts calendars.
