This Week in Movies - 5/4/15

In which our movie guru tells you what he really feels about what’s coming to the silver screen. Check in every Monday for the upcoming weekend’s releases, or grab a copy of our print edition to see the whole month.

Release date: May 8
Director: Anne Fletcher
Cast: Reese Witherspoon, Sofia Vergara, Robert Kazinsky, Richard T. Jones

Written by David Feeney, best known for penning 23 episodes of According to Jim (uh oh), and John Quaintance, best known for scripting nine episodes of Joey (dear lord), this alleged comedy stars Witherspoon as an inept police officer tasked with escorting a star witness (Vergara) to court where she’ll testify against a drug cartel kingpin. Shenanigans ensue as the quirky cop and her wild ward attempt to thwart the crooked cops and cartel henchmen sent to murder them. Hot Pursuit marks Vergara’s biggest film role to date and the 33rd time she’s played essentially the same character.

David Onda is Fly Magazine's movie guy. He is an entertainment writer for a national outlet. He's attended and covered the Academy Awards on several (well, 3) occasions for a national outlet. He once made Quentin Tarantino laugh. He has shared an elevator with Bruce Willis, sat in John Waters' living room and has flown in the same airplane as Joan Rivers.
