Do you know what people did at bars and parties before the advent of smartphones? They talked. Face to face. Sounds crazy right? But it’s actually pretty cool. It’s just a lot harder to work that eggplant emoji into conversations.
And if you wanted to play a drinking game you didn’t need to pull out your phone and download an app, you just rounded up some friends and maybe shuffled some cards.
The creators of Thinking & Drinking call it “a game of self-discovery or self-destruction.” Thinking & Drinking is a question-based card game that asks players to give honest answers to tough questions like Other than your bed, where’s the last place you slept?; Bacon or Beyoncé?; and If aliens landed here right now, which player would you send to greet them?. You can keep score but, the object of the game is really just to start conversations.
Each question card also features some basic information about an independent craft brewery including a photo of a flagship beer. The guys from York’s Crystal Ball Brewing Company were approached by the creators about being featured on a card and they quickly agreed. (Want to have your brewery featured as well? There’s still time to make that happen.)
“We thought it was a unique idea,” said Jesse James De Salvo, one of the co-founders of Crystal Ball Brewing Co. “We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have a photo of a 16-ounce Coconut Porter can on a card in the game.”
The Huffington Post even caught on to the analog gaming trend and gave Thinking & Drinking and Crystal Ball Brewing Co. shout outs in a recent article.
Thinking and Drinking looked like a good time so we asked De Salvo to play a round with us. Here’s how it went:
What are five things you can’t live without?
Food, air, water, beer and cheese.
Bacon or Beyoncé?
What’s a Beyoncé?
If giving up cheese made you immortal would you do it?
Repeat: CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT CHEESE!
Check out Thinking & Drinking and maybe throw a few bucks at their Kickstarter. And remember next time you’re at the bar put down your phone and talk to people. Face to face. It’s fun. Trust us.
How would you answer those Thinking & Drinking questions? Leave a comment, hit us up on Twitter and Facebook, or if you see us out at the bar, feel free to tell us face to face…
