WHEREIN WE DISH UP CENTRAL PA’S TOP EVENTS

Chocolate-Covered February

ChocCovered0215February is for chocolate lovers. Starting February 1, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts kicks off its 28-day company-wide chocolate binge – Chocolate-Covered February. Events and offerings range from the consumable – confection creation classes; decadent dessert bars; and wine-, spirits-, and beer-and-chocolate pairings – to the interactive – a “dessert journey” through Chocolate World and a chocolate parade. Oh, and there are whipped cocoa baths at the Hershey Spa. And a strawberry parfait scrub.

Regional Music Festivals

MusicFests0215In case you haven’t noticed, the Northeast is a less-than-desirable climate in the dead of winter. But don’t you dare let the cold keep you couch-ridden this month, especially if you fancy yourself a music lover; there are some serious music festivals a-happening, after all. Flip to the Music section to get the skinny on Gettysburg Rocks in Gettysburg (February 6-8), Lancaster Roots & Blues in downtown Lancaster (February 6 & 7) and Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg (February 19-22).

Craft Beer Fests!

BrewFests0215Let’s all take a moment a say a quick “thank you” to the folks at CrocodileDog Marketing and Stoudts Brewery. Why? Thanks almost entirely to the pair’s programming alone, our region boasts at least one craft beer festival every month of the year. (How cool is that?) February is no exception – Hibrewnation wraps up its winter trifecta on its home turf with one final beer festival at Memorial Hall at the York Expo Center on February 7, while Stoudts hosts a Winter Brew Festival on February 28 at its digs in Adamstown.

ValenWine’s Day Celebration

ValenWine0215For all the men out there looking for a way to score some serious points this Valentine’s Day, why not give a gift unlike any other – a day of patient service. We’re talking, of course, about offering to be a designated driver for your better half during the ValenWine’s Day Celebration – Hershey Harrisburg Wine Country’s two-weekend, 13-winery wine and chocolate extravaganza on February 14-15 and 21-22. Such selflessness is a surefire way to demonstrate your softer, compassionate side, the likes of which scientific research has proven time and again to be something that chicks totally dig.

Punk Documentary Screening

SaladDaysIan0215Central PA has long held down a respectable reputation for its punk scene, but the punk music scene would be nothing without its roots in the nation’s capital in the 1980s. On February 15, Midtown Cinema in Harrisburg and Moviate team up to for a screening of Salad Days: A Decade of Punk in Washington, DC (1980-90), a new documentary film examining the DC harDCore scene featuring the bands and personalities – such as Henry Rollins, Ian MacKaye and Dave Grohl – that made it so. Restaurant Week York

RWYork0215The food is the thing at the fifth annual Restaurant Week York as restaurants, cafes, bars and kitchens in downtown York strut their culinary stuff with prix fixe menus and exclusive offerings February 21-28. Yes, that’s a no-brainer – what’s a restaurant week without something to eat? But this year’s “It’s about the food” theme is an outright challenge to the city’s chefs to think outside the box and get creative. And don’t let the “I did this last year” mindset keep you from venturing out; many of the 29 participating restaurants have opened since last year’s event – such as Tutoni’s, Baron Von Schwein and BrewVino – making this the perfect opportunity to finally get a taste of the city’s new class of restaurants.
