If you haven’t heard orchestral hip hop, you aren’t alone, but you sure are missing out. The unofficial ambassadors of this eclectic genre, the PitchBlak Brass Band, are performing tonight, November 19, at the Chameleon Club. Bandleader Chanell Crichlow stands at the helm of this beautiful behemoth, combining sousaphone with some of the biggest hits from hip-hop canon. And it sounds rad.
Still not convinced? Check out this cover of Aaliyah’s hit, “Are You That Somebody,” from an August show in New York:
If your started dancing in your seat, you’ll be in good company tonight at the Chameleon. Tickets are $7. The show starts at 7 p.m.
Like what you hear? Doors open at 8 p.m., and the music starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $12. PitchBlak will be supported by People’s Champs, who play rock-soul-fusion vibes with influences equally as varied as the headliner’s.
