Super Mario RPG busts onto the Wii U scene

If you didn’t have enough foresight to save your Super Nintendo Entertainment System and all that came with it, or if you weren’t around or able to get one when the SNES was in its heyday, a recent Wii U release might be pertinent to your interests. Today, June 30, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars comes to the North American Wii U Virtual Console.

Legend of the Seven Stars was originally released for the SNES in 1996, and it’s been available in other regions for the Wii U Virtual Console since 2008. It’s the inaugural entry in the Mario RPG series, which grew to include several Paper Mario games and the Mario and Luigi entries as well. The game follows multiple Mario characters as they team up to defeat Smithy, a devious antagonist who’s stolen seven pieces of the Star Road. As if messing with Mushroom Kingdom’s infrastructure isn’t bad enough, the Star Road is where the wishes of Mushroom Kingdom’s citizens go in order to turn into Wish Stars and be granted. As for the gameplay – check it out below.

If you want this nostalgia-tinged goodness, it’ll run you $7.99.
