Sunday A.M. Radio: Make it a Double

In honor of Fly After 5 becoming a bi-monthly publication, we’re here to bring you twice the Lancaster County fun. That means twice the music, twice the food and twice the arts and culture. Grab a copy of the Sept. 1 issue and be on the lookout for the next issue coming out on Sept. 15.

We’re excited about doubling up on Fly After 5 content and so, to celebrate, this edition of Sunday A.M. Radio does a double take at a Frank Ocean song that’s not on “Blonde” or “Endless.”

Everyone is talking about Frank Ocean’s recent double dose of new music on “Endless” and “Blonde.” We talked about them in length here, here and here. But, let’s listen to a great track from Ocean’s excellent 2012 release “channel ORANGE.”

Here’s Ocean performing “Thinkin Bout You” on SNL.

Now let’s listen to “Thinkin Bout You” again, but filtered through the genius of Knxwledge. You might  recognize the prolific producer Knxwledge from Kendrick Lamar’s 2015 masterpiece “To Pimp A Butterfly” (Knx produced the track “Momma”) or maybe you recognize him from smoking tons of joints and not saying a single intelligible word on Action Bronson’s Viceland super meta TV series “Action Bronson Watches Ancient Aliens.”

Listen to Knxwledge’s “Thnkn'” from HexualSealingsEP1.5. released on Bandcamp in October of 2011. “Thnkn” contains a syrupy slowed-down sample of  “Thinkin Bout You.” Shout out to one of my childhood crushes: Denise Huxtable.
