You like puzzles? The ’70s? Being locked in a room with your friends?
Then York’s latest entertainment option is right up your alley. Escape Games Live opened for business in downtown York earlier this week, and owners Michelle Hill and Steve Shellenberger say they’re already booking reservations as fast as they can.
Escape games (or escape rooms) have been cropping up across the U.S. over the last year or two. How do they work? At the most basic level, you’re locked into a room and you have to solve puzzles to get out.
But that simplification sells the experience short – the goal puzzle is made up of a whole heap of smaller puzzles, all of which flow together in a logical way.
Escape Games Live has two rooms (a third is slated to open in the next couple of months), and each is meticulously – and hilariously – themed. They’re packed full of props and decor that really evoke a place and time – specifically, a ’70s living room and a “Dragnet”-style police precinct office. (The third room? That’ll be Sherlock Holmes-themed.)
If you’re interested in signing up for this test of wits, you can book a room online at escapegameslive.com, or call 870-4033 (ask for Steve – and tell him we sent ya).
An intrepid team of Fly Magazine staffers were lucky enough to try out both escape rooms earlier this week. We had a blast, but we don’t want to spill the beans on how we fared quite yet. You’ll have to wait until our April print issue for that…
