Saturday: Sour beers, St. Baldrick's, distillery tours, live music & more

‘Tis a bit of a windy day, but there ain’t no denying that Spring is trying its darndest here. We’ll take it. And you should, too. And you should also get on out of the house and make the most of the day. Here are some ideas:

Sours & Stouts at Beer Mongers (York)

Sour beers are making their collective presence known more and more these days. But if you’re not yet familiar with the eclectic beer style, today’s Sours & Stouts event at Beer Mongers in Dallastown is a surefire way to get acquainted. Seriously, though, this tap list is top-notch, including some fantastic stouts like the revered KBS from Founders. The event runs all day, but you should get their sooner rather than later to ensure a taste of the good stuff.

St. Baldrick’s Day at Annie Bailey’s (Lancaster)

Annie Bailey’s Irish Pub in Lancaster once again hosts what’s grown to be the largest St. Baldrick’s event in the state. Hit the deck to watch brave souls have their heads, beards & ‘staches shaved as the culmination of a long fundraising campaign to raise money for children’s cancer research. There’s still time to make a donation and, we hear, to get a haircut as well…

Thistle Finch Distillery now offering tours (Lancaster)

Great news folks. This Saturday will mark the start of regular public tours here at Thistle Finch Distillery! Saturday…

Main Street Hanover Mini Golf (Hanover)

Folks in Hanover can putt for a purpose during the first ever Main Street Mini Golf event. Main Street Hanover, a volunteer organization that promotes downtown businesses and events, is inviting golfers of all ages to come downtown and play the 13 homemade golf holes that have been constructed by area business owners like Miscreation Brewing Co., Abithat and Hanover Area Arts Guild & Gallery.

JP Harris at Burning Bridge Tavern (Wrightsville)

Nashville honky-tonker JP Harris has been through the region quite a bit over the past few years. He’s played solo/acoustic, as a duo with Old Crow Medicine Show’s Chance McCoy and, as is most often the case, with his band The Tough Choices. There’s a reason he returns to the area; aside from the fact that he’s damn good, Harris and his band know how to get a party going. Wear your boots and get ready to two-step the night away as JP Harris & The Tough Choices take over the BBT tonight.

Clare House benefit concert at Fulton Street Arts Co-op (Lancaster)

Lancaster nonprofit Clare House serves homeless women and children in a caring environment, through life skills training and support, leading to self-sufficiency. Accordingly, tonight’s benefit concert at the Fulton Street Arts Co-op features a great lineup of female-fronted bands – Cosette Gobat, Jane Ramsey and headliner Shawan and the Wonton (a band we’ve had our eye on for some time).

ALSO: The Susquehanna Ale Trail, Lititz Cask Beer Festival, Berks Jazz Fest and Spring Thaw Brewery Collectibles Show all continue today. Check Friday’s post for details.
