Saturday picks: Miscreation Brewing opens, Harrisburg parades, more

Still feeling Irish? Head to Harrisburg for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, or to Hanover for an Irish breakfast-themed grand opening at Miscreation Brewing. Here’s what else is going on today and tonight:

 

Miscreation Brewing Company’s Grand Opening (Hanover)

Miscreation Brewing Company knows how to serve up a grand opening. Hanover’s latest brewery celebrates its grand opening bright and early with a St. Patrick’s Day-themed beer breakfast from 8-10 a.m. Have some eggs and bacon provided by The Hanover Hub and sample some of Miscreation’s offerings. The pub is open from 8-10 p.m. Wear green – St. Patrick’s Day isn’t over until Miscreation says so.

Harrisburg St. Patrick’s Parade

The Capital Region Association of Irish and Celts are still feeling the St. Paddy’s fever as the Harrisburg St. Patrick’s Day Parade returns hits the streets this afternoon with battalions of bagpipers, high school bands and eight fire companies. This year’s theme is “Feed the Hungry” and parade organizers are collecting donations of food and canned goods. The parade begins at 2 p.m. at Walnut Street and Commonwealth Avenue and is led by Joe Arthur – the Executive Director of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and Johathan “Miss Chucky” Palmer, Director of the St. Francis of Assisi Soup Kitchen.

Mason-Dixon Wine Trail Tour de Tanks

It’s the penultimate weekend for the 10th anniversary of the Mason-Dixon Wine Trail’s Tour de Tanks. The passport event features wineries, distilleries and cideries from Adams, Dauphin, Lancaster and York counties as well as Maryland on Saturdays and Sundays from 12-5 p.m. in March. Access behind the scenes tours, sample exclusive barrel tastings and meet the winemakers. See a list of participating venues and get ticket information here.

Aaron Freeman (aka Gene Ween) at the Strand-Capitol (York)

Former Ween singer Aaron Freeman takes the stage for an intimate acoustic show at the Capitol Theatre at the Strand-Capitol in York. Read our interview with Freeman here and in the current print issue of Fly. Doors open at 8 p.m. and tickets are $20.

Electron with American Babies at Chameleon Club (Lancaster)

Marc Brownstein and Aron Magner of the Disco Biscuits/Conspirator team up with Mike Greenfield of Lotus and Tom Hamilton of Brother Past to form the revered jamtronica supergroup Electron. The show is at the Chameleon Club in Lancaster. Philly’s American Babies opens. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $17-$20.

Freekbass at The Winner’s Circle (Hanover)

Freakishly good bass player aptly dubbed Freekbass hits The Circle tonight. The Cincinnati-based bassist doesn’t fake the funk. The show starts at 9 p.m. and just like the first four letters of Freekbass’s name it’s F-R-E-E.

PitchBlak Brass Band at Abbey Bar (Harrisburg)

Get down with Brooklyn’s award-winning hip-hop style 10-piece brass band featuring Des Sera at the Abbey Bar in Harrisburg. Doors open at 8 p.m. and tickets are $10.

York Symphony Orchestra at the Strand-Capitol (York)

The YSO, led by Lawrence Golan, features “New Frontiers” – a multi-media space-themed presentation featuring three pieces including “The Planets” by Gustav Holst at the Strand Theatre at the Strand Capitol at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $9 or $5 with a student ID.
