If you’re not into exploding projectiles or eating your red, white, and blue heart out this weekend, that’s fine. Maybe you feel like getting into the Independence Day spirit with some jams – and July 4th musical get-togethers are one thing Central PA has in spades. All of these events are on the 4th itself, so you might have to play favorites – but hey, if you want to make a mad dash to hit all four of them up, no one is stopping you.
7th Annual Stars & Stripes Salute at Sunset Bar & Grille (Middletown)
Hit up the Sunset Bar & Grille to enjoy their special Saturday music lineup. Harvey’s Bar-B-Q and Williams Concessions (the great minds and spatulas behind Williams French Fries, Williams Catering, and Denny’s Lennies) will be set up in the area – and they’re giving some of the proceeds to the Lebanon Veterans’ Affairs Medical Center, so you can feel good about that pulled pork. But you’re going for the music: At the Sunset Bar & Grille itself, a Jimmy Buffet tribute band appropriately called Parrotbeach will be playing at 7p.m. Then mosey over to Sunset Park at 8p.m. to check out The Bainbridge Band, a Lancaster County-based concert band with a whole lot of history dating back to the end of the 19th century. If you like your music to end with a boom, no worries – at 9:30p.m. there’ll be a half-hour fireworks show that’s sure to be a real fizzbanger.
July 4th Music by Dovetail at Spring Gate Brewery (Harrisburg)
In the mood for some booze and tunes? Hit up the Spring Gate Brewery at 7:30p.m. Check out Spring Gate’s gorgeous Bier Garten and the Pane di Casa food truck that will be stationed there to serve all your munchie needs. Then, settle in; at 7:30p.m., musical husband-and-wife duo Dovetail will take the stage – or, er, grass – to entertain you with their wonderfully complementary acoustic guitar and piano performances. Be patient if they’re a little late, though – after all, they are singing the national anthem for the Harrisburg Senator’s game.
Red White & Blues at Ruins Hall (Glen Rock)
If your heart is full of rock and roll, if the blues sound in your soul, if you want to hear way better rhymes than that half-assed line, then you’d better spend your Saturday at Ruins Hall. Hosted by Central PA blues-rock group Buzzard Luck, this four hour event runs from 2-7p.m. and includes not only the boys of Buzzard Luck but phipps & friends, the Dirty Devils Trio, and Fly featured act – the inimitable Shawan and the Wonton. For just a smidgen of the full Red White & Blues experience, check Shawan & co. performing their original song “Trouble” below. This is a must-not-miss lineup, folks – be there or be decidedly rectangular.
