PhilanthroBeer Week: Drinking beer never felt so good

Drinking a couple pints of craft beer always makes us feel better, but this week those pints will make others feel better too. PhilanthroBeer Week – the weeklong series of fundraising events benefitting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Central PA – kicked off earlier this week and continues through Sunday. Last year’s event raised over $17,000 for the cause, but we’re thinking we can all help do better this year.

How does it work? PhilanthroBeer Week retailers donate $1 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Central PA for every featured pint purchased. This year’s event includes participants like Yards Brewing Co., Sam Adams, Ithaca Beer Co., Deschutes Brewery, Sprecher Brewing Co., Lagunitas, Dogfish Head, Tröegs Brewing Co., Great Lakes Brewing Co., Leinenkugel, The Beer Ace and a host of local retailers, bars and restaurants.

Be sure to get out to some of the events taking place this week and use the hashtag #IDrinkBecauseICare. Here’s a few that caught our eye:

T.J. Rockwell’s in Elizabethtown features a Yards Brewing Co., Deschutes, and Ithaca Beer Co. sampling tonight from 6-8 p.m.

The Strand-Capitol in York screens the craft beer documentary Blood, Sweat, & Beers tonight at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Q&A session with the directors. A pre-screening happy hour with appearances by the directors of the film takes place at the Holy Hound Taproom from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

The Station House Tavern in Lancaster hosts an #IDrinkBecauseICare pint night featuring Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA on Thursday from 6-8 p.m.

Grain + Verse in New Cumberland hosts a pint night featuring Ithaca Apricot Wheat on Thursday from 8-10 p.m.

Alley Kat in Lancaster hosts a pint night featuring select beers from Deschutes including Fresh Squeezed IPA, Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Black Butte Porter, Chainbreaker White IPA and Twilight Summer Ale on Saturday from 5-9 p.m.

Visit PhilanthroBeer Week’s Facebook page for additional events. We don’t know why, but somehow craft beer tastes even better when you’re drinking it for a good cause. Cheers!
