Out & About: Food Truck Feast, bar crawls, popcorn & more

Photographer: via Bad Prom Bar Crawl

You may be confused by this turn in the weather, but a couple well-thought-out Google searches have led us to surmise that this is, in fact, “Spring.” And we don’t know about you, but this turning of the weather dial towards Warm makes us want to get out on the town.

There’s a good deal of craft beer events on the docket for the weekend, and no shortage of great live music either. The events below, then, fall outside those two easy groupings, and are every bit worth your consideration during this temperate weekend. Of course, you can always check Fly’s entertainment calendars to find more live music, bar parties and events in Harrisburg, York and Lancaster, too.

Food Truck Feast in Harrisburg (Friday)

It’s the third Friday of the month already, meaning that Harrisburg’s first 3rd in the Burg of the season is upon us. That also means that the HBG Food Truck Feast is back at it, serving up a variety of food truck fare from the parking lot at 1601 N. 3rd St. from 5-9pm.

Go Green in the City in York (Saturday)

Artisans, green-conscious businesses, non-profits and food vendors take to the streets on Saturday in downtown York – specifically in the block between N. Beaver Street, N. Pershing Avenue, W. Clarke Avenue and the White Rose Bar and Grill parking lot – for Go Green in the City, an interactive street fair featuring live art, pop-up yoga, food, crafts and more. Live music starts at 10am with a lineup that includes The Wild Hymns, Hexbelt, Indian Summer Jars, Kate Nyx and Mojo Combo.

Bad Prom Bar Crawl in Lancaster (Saturday)

If you see a horde of terribly dressed revelers in the streets Saturday night in downtown Lancaster, chances (and hopes) are that they are part of the Bad Prom Bar Crawl. The event actually calls for “your worst prom attire” as it bounces from bar to bar, starting with Federal Taphouse at 7pm. At the end of the night, a prom King and Queen will be crowned. Proceeds benefit Milagro House of Lancaster.

Bar “Paw” Crawl in Middletown (Saturday)

The 4th annual Bar “Paw” Crawl benefiting the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area returns to Middletown on Saturday starting at 4pm.

Cigar Dinner at General Sutter in Lititz (Sunday)

D&S Cigars teams up with the General Sutter Inn to present a Cigar Dinner featuring Rocky Patel cigars on Sunday. A social time (read: smokin’ time) goes from 2-4pm, with dinner following at 4:30pm, featuring a bison burger, Maryland crab chowder and hors d’oeuvres.

Popcorn Bowl at Midtown Cinema in Harrisburg (Sunday)

If you equate the usual fare of greasy, disproportionately buttery popcorn to the movie theater experience, then Sunday’s Popcorn Bowl at Midtown Cinema is a much-needed intervention. The snack food event runs from 5-8pm featuring seven varieties of “POSHcorn”. It’s free to attend and eat, with door prizes and trivia games to boot.
