Okkervil River announce new album, releases single

Okkervil River announced today that they will be releasing their new album, “Away,” on September 9. This will be their eighth full-length release and their first since 2013’s “The Silver Gymnasium.” In a statement on the band’s website, frontman Will Scheff had this to say about the album’s creation:

“I think this record was me taking my life back to zero and starting to add it all back up again, one plus one plus one. Any part that didn’t feel like it added up I left out. Eventually, I realized I was writing a death story for a part of my life that had, buried inside of it, a path I could follow that might let me go somewhere new.”

The band also released a single from the album, the autobiographical “Okkervil River R.I.P.” which you can hear below.
