Nickelback forced to cancel Hersheypark date

Bad news for all those Nickelback fans out there (no, I won’t insert a cliched joke in this place). Lead singer and guitarist Chad Kroeger has been forced to undergo emergency surgery with an operable cyst on his vocal chords (and I’ll refrain from inserting a joke here, too).

The operation has forced the Canadian mega-group to cancel the entire second leg of its 2015 No Fixed Address North American tour, including the band’s scheduled date at Hersheypark Stadium on August 8, in support of their most recent album – 2014’s No Fixed Address.

“I am sorry I have to interrupt the party this summer and I am definitely not thrilled with the prospect of being silent for many weeks to come when I could be out there playing for our fans,” said Kroeger in a press release.

All tickets will be refunded for the show, which is little consolation for the fans of the band who in 2013 were named by Rolling Stone readers as the second worst band of all time (coming in behind Scott Stapp and Creed). While the band may not be everyone’s cup of tea (remember when fans of the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers created a presidential online petition to remove them from the halftime entertainment of their Thanksgiving game in 2011?), let it never be said that they don’t have a sense of humor. Watch this clip from the website Funny or Die to get a sense of their classic Canadian comedy lineage (warning: some harsh language is contained within).
