The new Harrisburg Beer Week needs a logo

The art and booze relationship is one that’s been around for some time. Studies have suggested humans have been drinking beer – or, at the very least, a fermented, grain-based, intoxicating drink – since the Stone Age, giving Thor that creative impulse to chisel an impressionistic portrait of his pet sabertooth tiger on the cave wall.

Fast forward about 10,000 years and artists today are still finding ways to lend their creativity to the alcohol industry. From ornate tap handles to downright framable label art on both beer and wine bottles (that fire-breathing bear on the Toasted Head label gets me every time), the proverbial bar is continually being raised higher and higher.

For the artists in the region, the folks behind the still-developing Harrisburg Beer Week are hoping to tap your creativity (see what I did there?) as they look to develop a logo for the forthcoming all-things-craft-beer week in the Capital City. From the website:

Harrisburg Beer Week is seeking a logo design for a weeklong event to celebrate the ever-growing craft beer industry in the greater Harrisburg, Pa. area as well as demonstrate what our beloved city has to offer. Through educational events where patrons can learn about the brewing process, meet brewers and try food pairings, we hope to continue to support the growth of knowledge and experience for the citizens of Harrisburg as well as in the surrounding communities.

Harrisburg Beer Week – or, for those in the social media world, #HBGBeerWeek – is scheduled for April 24-May 1, 2015. Look for craft beer tasting events, pairing dinners, educational talks with brewers and much more at pubs, breweries and restaurants across Harrisburg. As for the logo design contest… It wraps up September 30 at 11:59 p.m., so if you’re interested, I’d suggest putting the beer down and getting to designing – or, drink a few more if that helps jumpstart your creativity. Your call.


How to Enter

Design Deadline: Sept 30, 2014 (11:59pm, EST)

Files Needed: Scalable vector EPS format (fonts saved as outlines) and also as a JPG for previewing

Number of Entries: 3 entries per person, maximum.

Submit by Email:

In addition to the logo files, please include your full name & phone number.

We will confirm files received within one week of receipt. We cannot be responsible for entries or responses lost in email.

The limit on attachment sizes for our email is 5Mb. If your submission exceeds this size, please send the images individually and note so in your email message.


The logo will be used in a variety of ways: online, print, t-shirts, stickers, etc. Flexibility is a must since the logo will need to be resized easily and at times, may need to be produced in black and white.

Please refrain from using halftones and gradients in the logo design unless created inside a vector graphics program. Color mode must be CMYK. Sorry, no spot colors.


The winning designer will receive $100 and various merchandise that contains the selected logo (ie. T-shirt, sticker, etc.).
