National Peach Month: 4 peached-up drinks to sip 'n celebrate

Welcome to National Peach Month. What’s that? You didn’t know that August was National Peach Month, or that there even was such a thing?

Well, now that you do, let’s get to the heart of the matter: How will you celebrate it?

While we fully endorse (and enjoy) a good peach cobbler, peaches on our ice cream, peach chutney and pretty much any other peachy culinary creations, we’d like to instead dive into a few other delectable ways (read: boozy ways) that you can get your peach on. Here’s some cocktail options for the intrepid amateur bartender, ranging from the standard peach bellini to a bourbon-peach cocktail that packs a heavy punch.

Peach Bellini

What you want: To feel fancy with minimal effort.

What you need:

  • • two ounces of peach puree or two ounces of peach juice if you’re just very thirsty
  • • six ounces prosecco
  • • a champagne flute
  • • opera glasses and a top hat (optional)

What you do: Pour your peach puree into the champagne flute and slowly pour the prosecco over it. Sure, you could use champagne – or really any sparkling wine, really – but the prosecco is what creates a true bellini. And we’re purists, dammit.

Bourbon-Peach Cocktail

What you want: A seasonal excuse to drink bourbon.

What you need:

  • • two ounces bourbon (or more than two, if that’s how you roll)
  • • an ounce of peach juice or peach nectar
  • • as much ginger ale (or club soda, if you want to prove you’re a hardass) as you feel like drinking
  • • a low ball glass

What you do: Dunk the peach juice in, add the bourbon, top it off with your bubbly, and ice it. If it’s too hot to drink anything that’s not in slushy form or if you wanted to get really fancy, you could do all of this in a blender – just go heavy on the ice, and puree the sonuvagun.

What you want: To relive a long-gone spring break.

What you need:

  • • as much peach schnapps as you care to drink
  • • orange juice to top
  • • a peach slice (to garnish)
  • • ice
  • • highball glass

What you do: Pour the schnapps over the ice, top off with orange juice, and garnish with (or just eat) the peach slice.

Dogfish Head Festina Peche

What you want: A boozy peach-involved drink, but you feel weird about making a cocktail.

What you need:

  • • one bottle Dogfish Head Festina Peche

What you do: This should be relatively intuitive, but… Open the beer, take a sip. Swallow. Repeat.
