For all the Brian Wilson fans in the region, tonight’s the night to rejoice – he’s finally performing at The Mann Center in Philadelphia. The musical legend is joined on stage by former Beach Boys bandmates Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin, along with the rest of his world-class backing band, playing both classic Beach Boys tunes like “Good Vibrations” and “Surfin’ U.S.A.,” along with songs off his brand-new album, No Pier Pressure. (Read about Wilson and the making of No Pier Pressure, in this month’s Fly profile piece.)
In honor of Wilson’s concert tonight, my Monday Morning Music pick pays tribute to the songwriter’s most famous song of all – “God Only Knows.” Get behind the scenes of his songwriting process in this two-part, uncut studio sessions recorded on March 10, 1966, at Western Recorders studios in Los Angeles.
And part 2:
Brian Wilson performs at the Mann Center tonight at 7:30 p.m. Opening the show is the “Sugar Man” himself, Rodriguez. Tickets range between $49.50-$79.50.
