Lego Dimensions adds characters from 15 new franchises

One of the main things that has kept Lego a favorite for kids and adults alike for nearly 70 years is the sheer lengths that your imagination can go to while building. Starting in 2000, Lego started dipping their toes into licensed sets featuring characters and locales from Star Wars. In the intervening 16 years, licensed sets have absolutely boomed, featuring everything from Indiana Jones to Spongebob Squarepants. 2014’s “The Lego Movie” exploded at the box office due mostly to its humor, but also the novelty of seeing characters from vastly different universes interact, ranging from DC Comics favorites to the 2002 NBA All-Stars.

The Lego Dimensions video game, released last year, applied the concept of combining franchises to its logical next step. Today, a mass of new characters were announced for the game, sending fans into a frenzy. The list of new franchises includes:

-Ghostbusters (2016)
-Knight Rider
-Sonic the Hedgehog
-The Goonies
-Mission Impossible
-Harry Potter
-The Powerpuff Girls
-Back to the Future
-Teen Titans
-E.T. the Extra Terrestrial
-Adventure Time
-The Wizard of Oz
-Dr. Who
-The A-Team

This, of course, opens up a wide range of possibilities. Imagine Sonic and Marty McFly teaming up to take on the Wicked Witch of the West and Gollum? How about Mr. T using Dr. Who’s TARDIS to help the Ghostbusters deal with some historical ghosts? The possibilities are literally endless. The first set of packs is set to launch September 27, which gives you enough time to aquaint yourself with Lego Dimensions if you haven’t already. Check out the full trailer for the updates below.
