Lancaster Roots & Blues: Joanna Connor

Our excitement has been growing for months as Rich Ruoff – the director of The Lancaster Roots and Blues Festival – has slowly revealed the lineup for the February 26-28 music festival in downtown Lancaster. Roots and Blues – now in its third year – features more than 70 local and nationally touring bands. With so many bands to check out in three days, you obviously won’t be able to catch them all, but over the next couple weeks, we’ll be highlighting a few bands you should make sure to see. And don’t forget to check out our Roots & Blues Spotify playlist, also below.

Joanna Connor

Joanna Connor would have been happy playing blues at her usual haunt in Chicago for the rest of her musical career. Starting out in the late ‘80s playing fiery blues to rapt audiences the country over, Connor’s touring schedule gradually declined as the years passed due to high touring costs. But after a video of her performing at the North Atlantic Blues festival exploded online in 2014, Connor picked up right where she left off, leaving audiences dumbfounded with her incredible technical guitar skills. Now, with a renewed sense of vigor, Connor will be coming to Lancaster to show off her impeccable skills

Joanna Connor plays at 2 pm on Sunday at the Elks Lodge.

Kevin Stairiker is a features writer for Fly. He is a graduate of Temple University and enjoys writing in third person. When he isn't writing, he's probably playing guitar for a litany of bands, reading comics or providing well-needed muscle at The Double Deuce.
