Renowned Irish theatrical company the Kilmeen Drama Group will make its Central PA debut next week with a two-night stand at the Ware Center in downtown Lancaster on October 29 and 30. The group will perform Irish playwright J.M. Synge’s classic drama Playboy of the Western World, the story of a man who kills his father.
Hailing from the small town of Rossmore in the west of County Cork, The Kilmeen Drama Group has earned an four All-Ireland titles regarded as one of the Emerald Isle’s top 10 theatrical groups. After sweeping the 2013 RTE All-Ireland finals for its production of Playboy of the Western World, the group earned the prestigious honor of performing the play in Ireland’s Abbey Theatre on the same stage where Playboy was first performed in 1907.
The production is co-sponsored by Tellus360, and the Irish-tinged pub is hosting a pot luck supper on Monday, October 27, to welcome the Kilmeen Drama Group to town. The night will feature live music from Corty Byron, Andy Mowatt and Dave Pedrick, as well as a quick performance or two from the Kilmeen Drama Group. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share.
