ICYMI: Watch The National and St. Vincent premiere a new song together live

Though their respective catalogs might disagree, St. Vincent and The National have a lot in common.

They both revel in making off-kilter pop songs and have also both become unlikely indie-rock stalwarts over the past ten years. Annie Clark has appeared with The National before, lending her voice to “This Is the Last Time” from The National’s most recent album, 2013’s “Trouble Will Find Me.” Thanks to a few intrepid amateur videographers, it was revealed last night at The National’s headlining gig at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles that Clark will be joining them on record again.

Amid multiple song debuts, Clark joined the band onstage for a new song tentatively titled “Prom Song 13th Century (Frankie and Johnny).” In its current form, the song follows the classic National blueprint of making a beautiful song about exactly how hard it is to findand keep love. In a cute move, National-frontman Matt Berninger and Clark enact a bit of ballroom dancing near the end of the clip. Check the performance and lyrics below.
