Hit Up Hanover: 5 things to do this weekend

Some boroughs have all the fun. Don’t let the apparent lack of hype fool you – Hanover is hip and happening, and this weekend shows that status off better than ever. Whether you like music, barbecue, or brew (lots and lots and lots of brew), you’re sure to find something you dig here.

2nd Annual Utz Summer Bash at the Utz Outlet Store (Friday, July 24)

Perfect for those with teacup humans in their lives, the Summer Bash will be held from 12-6 p.m. on Friday at the Utz Outlet Store at 861 Carlisle Street in Hanover. Aside from tons of vendors and face painting, there’ll be crafts, Zumba, and more. You want barbecue? Of course you do. Boneyard Barbecue will be there and they’re bringing their pulled pork sliders with them. You want balloon animals? They’ve got balloon animals (and Frozen-themed balloon characters, at that like you weren’t already sick of that movie.) You want music? Tweet (oh yeah, that Tweet) and Twinkie Clark will be performing live. You want dogs? The folks from Kpets Pet Therapy are gonna be there, which means you bet your ass there’ll be dogs there. Oh, yeah, it’s also free for general admission.

Hanover Dutch Festival (Saturday, July 25)

From 8 a.m.-4 p.m., the Hanover Dutch Festival – colloquially known as Dutch Days – will celebrate the area’s German heritage. Well over 300 food and craft vendors will be doing their thing throughout the day. 8 a.m.-3 p.m. will see the Hanover Area YMCA’s Kid’s Carnival. There’s a classic car show from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and all kinds of entertainment on the festival’s main stage throughout the day. Tons of local businesses are offering tours of their establishments – check the full list here – and

Miscreation Brewing Double Header of Events (Saturday, July 25)

We mentioned this earlier, but some things bear repeating: Miscreation Brewing Co.’s offering an awesome double dose of events this Saturday. One’s before Dutch Days, one’s after. One involves eggs and bacon, the other involves a new beer release. (What we in the business call a “win/win.”)

Hit Point Brewing Company Sampling (Saturday, July 25)

During Dutch Days, if you’re smart, you’ll head on down to the Hanover Hub. They’ll be hosting the good folks Hit Point Brewing Company, a deliciously geeky brewer that’s bringing hella strong pun game to their brews. At the Hub, Hit Point will be sampling out some of their offerings and selling merch. Check out these sick shirt:

As for the menu… well, see for yourself. Highlights include a twisted Belgian witbier brewed with lemongrass, called “Level One,” and the “Imperial Guard” amber ale clocking in at an impressive 9% ABV.

Beer, Beer, and More Beer (All the Time, Always)

Besides Miscreation and Hit Point, Hanover is also home to Aldus Brewing, Warehouse Gourmet, and Something Wicked. As breweries continue to open and existing breweries and pub continue to step up their game, Hanover is becoming a mecca for craft beer and microbreweries… which doesn’t just spell good things for the industry in the area. This also benefits you, the avid drinker consumer. Can you say “brewery crawl?” (Hell, why not make a day of it Saturday? Start at Miscreation in the morning and work your way around.)
