Here's what is coming to Netflix in October

Just once, wouldn’t it be cool if Netflix announced that they wouldn’t be putting out or taking off any movies? The press release would just be “You know what? Actually, we’re feeling pretty chill with all the stuff we’ve got on here now, we’re just going to wait it out until next month. Smell ya later!”

Ah, but to dream.

It would be right to assume that Netflix’ onslaught of new October offerings would lean towards the spooky side, but you’d be wrong. In fact, one of the genre’s greatest, “The Exorcist,” is leaving on Oct. 1. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights of what’s coming up.

American Horror Story: Hotel (Oct. 5)

A show that surely no one thought would make it to a half-decade, AHS keeps on rolling into darker and weirder territory with each successive season. After the hit-or-miss-or-worse-miss of “Coven” and “Freak Show,” Hotel brought in Lady Gaga to attempt to make up for a lack of Jessica Lange in the lead spot. While Lange was missed, Gaga held her own surprisingly well amidst a season that included vampires, famous dead serial killers, drug addicts and (duh) a haunted hotel. Still not as good as “Asylum,” though.

Justin Timberlake + The Tennessee Kids (Oct. 12)

Even JT is getting in on that sweet, sweet streaming money. In 2012, Timberlake reappeared with “The 20/20 Experience,” a double-album that could have been one nice long single album if the chaff from the second disc was cut out. He then, obviously,  embarked on a 100+ date world tour. This concert movie purportedly was shot at the final concert of the tour, so expect shots of a tired looking JT palling around with his bandmates interspersed with “Mirrors.”

Titanic (Oct. 1)

After the triumph of “True Lies,” James Cameron decided to make a historical drama based off of some ship from the early 20th century that no one cared about. Mostly known for that one Celine Dion song. Not much to say about this one.

Black Mirror: Season 3 (Oct. 21)

In 2011, “Black Mirror” premiered and instantly set the world a-buzzing with its “Twilight Zone” style of making our current digital landscape look absolutely terrifying. After six episodes and a Christmas special, “Black Mirror” is making the move to Netflix in October. Not a peep from the show has been seen yet, but faithful viewers will be looking forward to episodes reaching the quality of “Fifteen Million Merits” and “White Bear.”
