Get ready for Memorial Day

Like most federally-mandated holidays, the “true” meaning of Memorial Day is lost on most of modern culture. While it’s right there in the name to memorialize those who have fallen in combat, what separates that from Veteran’s Day on November 11? Over time, the fact that Memorial Day was fixed to the last Monday of May and held the spot as the unofficial start to summer changed the meaning ever so slightly. While we still remember those we lost to wars, it’s also used as an opportunity to convene with family members that we haven’t seen in some time. With the relaxation of a three-day weekend guaranteed, it’s only right to have a big get together to celebrate. With that, we can help.

If you plan on cooking up some BBQ on the grill for hungry family members, be sure to check out our interview with “BBQ Pitmasters” star “The Professor” Tuffy Stone.

Concoct your own beer cocktails (or “hoptails”) at home to compliment all the nice BBQ you just made. We collected recipes from some of the best brewers in the area, and they can be found here.

Finally, we saved you the work of having to make a playlist, as well. Ranging from summer classic by Sly & the Family Stone and The Undertones to new jams by Anderson Paak and Kurt Vile, we’ve got you covered with our summer playlist below.
