Three picks for what to do in Central PA on Friday, June 26.
1) Celebrate Lancaster with the PitchBlak Brass Band (Lancaster)
It’s no secret that Celebrate Lancaster will be shutting down downtown with good things galore. Entertainment, food, and – at 10p.m. tonight – fireworks. Still – it bears repeating: Over 20 food vendors? Two stages with awesome lineups? The PitchBlak Brass Band playing at Binns Park tonight from 8-9p.m.? If you’re anywhere near Lancaster City today, be sure to check it out.
2) The Hello Strangers at the Millworks (Harrisburg)
If you’re a night owl looking for some folksy-indie goodness, get thee to the Millworks. The Hello Strangers are playing this evening, and you really have to see them to believe them. Sisters Larissa Chace Smith and Brechyn Chase describe themselves as “Pennsyltucky-fried” and, weirdly, that’s kind of the perfect descriptor (and that’s a compliment.) Doesn’t sound like your thing? Think again. Their standout harmonies with arching melodies Adele would be envious of will satisfy a variety of musical palates. The sisters take the stage at 10 p.m.
3) Tone-Lōc at Blarney’s (Harrisburg)
Alright, if the Hello Strangers just don’t hit your musical funnybone, that’s fine; we’ve got another concert for you. Tone-Lōc is the rapper behind late 80s/early 90s hits “Wild Thing,” “Funky Cold Medina,” and “I Got It Going On” as well as a noted voice actor. You might know him as Goanna in FernGully; if you have children – or, as we at Fly prefer to call them, teacup humans – at home, you may know him as the voice of Chestnut from the TV show “Chowder.” Tone-Lōc is performing at Blarney’s this evening, and you can see him for free at Blarney’s Twisted Irish Pub tonight at 8p.m.
Want more? You don’t have to wait ’til 3 p.m. to check out FLY’s live music, bar entertainment and performing arts calendars.
