Three picks for what to do in Central PA on Friday, August 7.
1) Epic Movie Music at the Ware Center (Lancaster)
Watercolor paintings! Collaborative art! Cocktails! Orchestral arrangements of your favorite movie soundtrack songs! Ton-Taun performing! Tonight, starting 8 p.m., at the Ware Center, you can experience all that and more – although, really – what more could you possibly want? Tickets are $15. If you want the full skinny on this show and your other options for entertainment on First Friday, mosey over here.
2) Gettysburg Rocks (Gettysburg)
Tonight at 3 p.m. through Sunday at 8 p.m., the Gettysburg hills will be alive with the sound of music. Wineries, taverns, and bars throughout Gettysburg will be featuring more bands than you can shake a drumstick at. We have our picks for must-see performers (three of whom are playing tonight), but the full schedule includes more than 150 bands. Better yet? Funds raised from Gettysburg Rocks will benefit the Four Diamonds Fund, an organization that helps the fight against childhood cancer. You can do good by listening to good music.
3) “Mirror Mirror” Opening Reception at HIVE Artspace (York)
If you’re in York for First Friday, among many other must-catch events is HIVE Artspace’s opening reception for their newest exhibit, Mirror Mirror. Stop by from 6-9 p.m. to check out traditional and unconventional self-portraits by arists around Central PA. While you’re there – why not check out the Water Wars right nearbye in the parking lot next to Didi and Smiling John’s? Even better: Duke Street, which will be lined with food trucks, is just a short walk away.
Want more? You don’t have to wait ’til 3 p.m. to check out FLY’s live music, bar entertainment and performing arts calendars.
