Food, drink and barfing up rainbows

How do you start these things? “Hi… Hey… Greetings…?”

Anyway, I’m Blayne, Fly’s newest features editor, a Lancaster County native and a lover of Central PA nightlife. Lancaster Brewing Company? Let’s go on a Sunday for some $5 mimosas and Bloody Marys. Taproom/Spring House? I’ll have a Satan’s Bake Sale (or a Blood Lust, if we’re going to the Hazel Street location), and their steak is to die for.

I like food, my dogs, my husband… and food. On my off days you can find me binging any of the Amazon original series (but especially Transparent, because it’s a beautiful piece of work, and don’t you dare try to tell me otherwise), reading books on feminism and Stephen King or clowning around with said husband downtown.

At the ripe old age of 24, I’ve worked in Tillamook, Ore. (cheese country) and York, Pa. Coming back to work in my hometown has been a dream, and I’m hoping you all will feel comfortable saying hi if you see me walking around. I’ll be the lady trying really hard not to fall on her face, or wandering over in the early morning for some Shady Maple doughnuts at Central Market.

I’m looking forward to telling you all about some of the new bars and restaurants popping up in the Harrisburg, York and Lancaster area, and you may even find me at a couple of them. Have you gone to Altana Rooftop Lounge? It’s pretty chic, but not in a pretentious way. They even have bathroom attendants, which can be a good or bad thing, depending on how awkward you are (I promise the attendant isn’t going to stare at you).

But you won’t just be learning about the places – I’m going to talk to the clientele who will be serving you, and let you know what Bob the chef thinks of the foie gras (I just had to Google what exactly foie gras is, so now you know I’m learning possibly even more than you are in these encounters), and where he likes to chow down in the area.

Also, I don’t know about you, but I’m a huge podcast fan; The Flop House, The Dissolve (which is now Next Picture Show), The Moth, and even Anna Faris’ new podcast can all be found loaded on my phone. So how would you feel about a Fly podcast? Maybe on craft beer, or something else hipster-y and cool? Let me know if you have any ideas that would make a good Central Pennsylvania-centered listen.

Did you try an amazing burger the other night in Wrightsville? Or catch a cool show at Millworks? What’s the name of that killer drink you had this weekend? I desperately want to know these things, and am happy to take recommendations on Twitter at @thisisblayne, or by email at If you still talk on the phone, feel free to hit me up (I promise I don’t actually say “hit me up” regularly) at 717-481-6182. Lastly, if you’re on Snapchat, follow blayniac – that’s me. You’ll usually get stories of me just throwing up rainbows, and I’d love for you to experience that.

We’re going to have a lot of fun, readers. I just know it.
