Central PA’s culinary scene is home to some incredible offerings. Places to grab a bite run the gamut, from food trucks to fine dining. Lately, there have been some new additions to the dining scene – and some announcements concerning long-awaited upcoming openings. Keep your eye out for these new restaurants the next time you need to gnosh.
Bistro Barberet & Bakery is now open at 26 East King Street in Lancaster. They share the building with the Altana Rooftop Lounge – the collective’s simply known as 26 East King.
Chef Cedric Barberet is an awarded member of the Academie Culinaire de France and has a resume that ranges from heading the helm as executive pastry chef at Donald Trump’s private club – the Mar-a-Lago – to overseeing the good stuff as executive pastry chef at Philly’s now-closed Le Bec Fin. Estelle Barberet, store manager and his wife, was born into the family of a patissier and has worked in the sweets business since the age of 13.
The Bistro is the realization of a longstanding dream, says Estelle: “We have always wanted to have [a place like this]… this project took about two years.” While the pastries, given the Barberets’ background, will probably be the standout, there’s also a limited bistro menu that will be served for lunch and dinner. The bistro, Estelle says, will also be partnering with the Altana: “”We do all the food for the bar.” The bakery will be open from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with Sunday hours running from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Bistro hours for lunch run from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., with dinner from 5-10 p.m., and Sunday brunch from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The First Post is open at 3691 East Market Street in York. Open daily from 4-11 p.m., they’ve got dishes ranging from pastas to steaks, with appetizers like calamari, grilled octopus, and Scotch eggs. Check out this seared tuna with eggplant caponata:
They’re serving up some Americana goodness with a twist, but listen – you might want to check it out just for the atmosphere. It’s spacious, a little rustic, and just modern enough.
Charcoals Bar & Grill will open its doors soon at 701 Old Hickory Road in Lancaster. Executive chef Bob Byrnes will be cooking up greatness in the kitchen, judging by this chili.
There’s no firm opening date yet, but keep a weather eye on their Facebook page for updates. At the very least, we know the TVs are good to go.
