Day 7: General Sutter Inn in Lititz

31 Days of Decks in Central PA

Day 7

More than just a regular ol’ restaurant, the General Sutter Inn in Lititz has long stood out as an premier institution in the town’s eating and drinking scene. Previously called the Lititz Springs Hotel, the General Sutter Inn moniker was chosen in memoriam of John Augustus Sutter, a California Gold Rush pioneer who had made the town his home.

All cheesiness aside, you can strike gold yourself by tapping the General Sutter’s patio and garden for a nice relaxing al fresco lunch or dinner. The quaint setting is partially covered with seating for 90. While the full dining menu is available, this season sees the introduction of new items including a spicy Asian shrimp cocktail, ratatouille crudo salad and miso orange glazed salmon.

The patio’s full bar is more than equipped to help you wash down your meal, featuring more than just the usual beer and wine suspects with refreshing options like strawberry basil lemonade, white sangria and a variety of tropically inspired mojitos. Pair it all with some live music on Thursday nights (this month’s lineup includes Pete Erich tonight, Dan Coyle on May 14, Lavacave on May 21 and Lerman Richards on May 28) and trivia every Wednesday night.

And mark your calendar for Mother’s Day Brunch on May 10; a craft beer dinner with Evolution Craft Brewing on May 18; a wine pairing dinner featuring wines from Waltz Vineyards on June 14; and a murder mystery dinner on July 18.
