31 Days of Decks in Central PA
There’s something undeniably alluring about a rooftop. Even if you’re afraid of heights, the elevated vantage point can offer a unique perspective on areas you might pass by every single day. Sitting at the rooftop bar at Tellus360 in Lancaster, you almost forget that cars are whizzing by below on East King Street as you soak in the sun and gaze upon downtown Lancaster’s lone skyline denizens – The Greist Building, the Marriott hotel and the recently rehabilitated Lady Justice atop the Lancaster County Courthouse.
If you’re familiar with Tellus360, there’s actually a chance you’re not as familiar as you think. Since opening as a retail store almost five years ago, the building has been in a constant state of change. At present, the rooftop bar – which debuted last summer as an addition to Tellus360’s sprawling green roof – sits atop a whiskey bar, two stages of live music and entertainment, a recording studio and a kitchen.
With seating for 49 (no, not 50… 49.), the open-air rooftop patio is completely uncovered (wear sunscreen!) and is open the same hours as the rest of the building. The bar is limited in its offerings, relying on bottled and canned beers, a small array of liquors and wines, so you’ll have to bring that Guinness you’re craving up from downstairs. And if you’re hungry, the full restaurant menu is available as well as a special rooftop-only menu featuring items cooked on new grill and smoker.
Expect to see some live music and entertainment up there throughout the summer. First up is a Victory Brewing Summer Love party on May 9 from 2-4 p.m. And mark your calendar for June 26 so you can claim a spot (they’re limited) to watch the fireworks from Celebrate Lancaster.
