Evan Shapiro, former president of IFC and Sundance, is hoping to bring more on-demand comedy with the new comedy channel Seeso, launching Thursday for $3.99 a month.

Shapiro, who was also an executive producer of Portlandia and The Onion News Network, is now the executive producer of the NBCUniversal Digital Enterprises. So, as you can imagine, many of the shows available on the streaming service will be NBC originals like 30 Rock.
“We’re launching this brand-new product, direct to the consumer, with 2,500 hours of content, 20 original series and a brand-new platform built from scratch. And we are doing it organically, from within, as opposed to making an acquisition,” Shapiro told AP Entertainment.
Seeso plans to be ad-free, spanning all facets of comedy, from Saved By The Bell to Monty Python’s Flying Circus.
