Acoustic performer Greg Naylor is becoming more of a staple in the York
community than Harleys.
Naylor, who has been playing music since he was 15, has played in several
area bands in the past, including classic rock group Trilogy (Naylor and
former Trilogy guitarist Joe Olnick still team up on occasion for a live
performance). However, it was not until he started performing as a solo
acoustic act about two years ago that Naylor began enjoying local success.
"I'm very excited because in the last year - the last six months - I've
really started to get some notoriety," says Naylor, whose schedule is
already booked solidly through December. "I've always been very interested
in the local music scene. Music's a very, very important part of my life.
It always has been."
Although Naylor has written a handful of originals, show-goers can expect
to see a set almost entirely comprised of cover tunes. "My strong point, I
think, that I've gotten the most compliments on ... is a very wide variety
of music," Naylor says. His catalog ranges from songs by Janis Joplin and
Van Morrison to recent hits by artists like Kid Rock and Creed. "Regardless
of where I play or what type of crowd, I can find something that's going to
appeal to somebody in that crowd."
Happily employed as a teacher in the Spring Grove school district, Naylor
doesn't feel a need to pursue music on a full-time basis. It does, however,
provide him with a creative outlet and a way to fill those empty summer
months. "Playing is very important to me. It's something I've always done
and something I'll always do ... It gives me a chance to express myself,
and it gives me a chance to entertain people, which I really enjoy."
