If variety is the spice of life, then a Roof Rockers show must be very lively. The Lancaster-based group covers everyone from James Brown to the Backstreet Boys. "We're probably one of the few bands that does '50s through '90s," says Brigitte Walton, lead vocalist and percussionist for the band. "If you like R&B, and you like funk and you like dance stuff and, I hate to say the word, disco, you won't be disappointed...We also do some rock and some oldies." The band's playlist is always expanding, Walton notes, adding, "We learn a lot of new material every week."
The Roof Rockers formed in 1982, but the name of the band originally came from a 1950s group headed by an uncle of band members Bruce and Dave McComsey. When the current Roof Rockers began playing out, they were a five-piece band, but they've recently expanded to eight members. Bruce McComsey plays guitar and covers vocals, Dave McComsey performs on drums, trombone, percussion and vocals. With Walton they are joined by Brandon McComsey on fretless bass, Jim Geiter on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Jim Ditzler on keyboards and vocals, Marc Spina on trumpet and percussion, and Ryan Warfel on sax, percussion and vocals. Additionally, drummer Dave Hoffman often sits in for a set.
Walton, whose husband Dave is the guitarist in another local act, the SilverHawks, says the Roof Rockers put on an upbeat, action-packed show. "We're moving around a lot. There's a lot of action, and there's a lot of dancing, both from the band and the audience."
