Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Adrian Younge to score 'Marvel's Luke Cage'

In the weeks since Phife Dawg’s tragic passing, A Tribe Called Quest hasn’t left the public conscious. Whether this news was always in the works or is getting a bump due to the heart-breaking Tribe news, it’s at least positive: Tribe’s own Ali Shaheed Muhammad, along with current rap producer extraordinaire Adrian Younge are teaming up to score Marvel’s next Netflix show, “Luke Cage.”  Younge is no stranger to working with hip-hop legends, having produced two songs for Jay Z’s “Magna Carta Holy Grail” album as well as orchestrating and producing Ghostface Killah’s “Twelve Ways To Die” albums.

Most recently, the duo premiered their first public collaboration in the form of “untitled 06 | 06.30.2014,” a song on Kendrick Lamar’s surprise album “untitled unmastered.” “Luke Cage” showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker said that “it’s got a ’90s hip-hop vibe, but it’s really forward-thinking.” “Luke Cage” premieres September 30th. Check out a trailer for the show and some of the production duo’s work below.
