Three picks for what to do in Central PA on Tuesday, June 2
1) Irish whiskey tasting at Tellus360 (Lancaster)
When Tellus360 announced the debut of its new whiskey bar on the second floor (you know, that floor between the music venues and the rooftop bar) back in the winter, it promised a wide variety of the brown stuff. To say that they have delivered on that promise is an understatement. Tonight, Jameson and Irish whiskey ambassador Neil O’Leary will be on hand to guide you through a small sampling of the growing collection, focusing on Powers, Redbreast and Jameson Black Barrel whiskey. If the luck o’ the Irish be with you, you just might win one of Tellus360’s Tellus3Whiskey passports. The tasting event starts at 5 p.m. and is free. Sorry kids, this one’s for the 21+ crowd.
2) Randall the Enamel Animal at Spring House Taproom (Lancaster)
We can thank the off-centered folks at Dogfish Head Craft Brewery for the wonderful (and somewhat oddly named) craft beer invention, Randall the Enamel Animal. Given the apparatus’ technical title – it’s an organoleptic hop transducer module – it’s no surprise that most in the craft community are on a first-name basis with ol’ Randall (Randall is OK; Randy … not so much). Every week, Spring House Taproom runs one of its brews through the Randall stuffed with different ingredients to add a new taste profile; for example, last week’s pairing featured Spring House’s raspberry wheat ale over fresh basil and raspberries. Stop by after 5 p.m. to see what’s on tap tonight. Here’s a look at Randall as he prepared to infuse Seven Gates with limes, jalapeños and cilantro:
3) BYO-Vinyl at Holy Hound (York)
Rainy days are great for setting aside time to peel through your collection of LPs. But when rainy night comes along, you should get up and out of the house for a little fun on the town. And at the weekly BYO-Vinyl night at Holy Hound Taproom in York (held Tuesdays), you can bring your favorite vinyl finds along with you. The turntable starts spinning tonight at 9 p.m. – just hand your wax over to Dee Jay Maw and he’ll take it from there.
