Three picks for what to do in Central PA on Saturday, May 23
1) Chef’s Table dinner at The Garlic Poet (New Cumberland)
There’s still time to snag a seat at tonight’s Chef’s Table dinner featuring brews from Spring House paired with some amazing made-from-scratch cuisine cooked up by The Garlic Poet’s executive chef Kurt Wewer. The monthly dinner series has earned a reputation for bringing top-notch culinary and craft beer pairings to the table, evidenced in large part by the fact that almost every dinner to date has sold out in advance. As of posting this, there were still tickets left to tonight’s event (which runs from 4:30-6:30 p.m., by the way). But, don’t hate on us if you miss out. More importantly, put the next Chef’s Table on your calendar as soon as The Garlic Poet announces it…
2) Laff Trakk roller coaster debuts at Hersheypark (Hershey)
Today marks the official debut of Hersheypark’s 13th roller coaster, Laff Trakk. To boot, it’s also the first indoor glow-coaster in the U.S., marking new ground for the region’s chocolate-themed amusement park. Watch the video animation below from when Hersheypark first announced Laff Trakk last summer before you go so you can compare the promotion with the actual experience. But we must warn you: our sources tell us that Laff Trakk features spins, swirling colors, dizzying mirrors and, if you can believe it, a soundtrack dominated by laughing.
3) Great PA FlavorFest (Manheim)
The Keystone State’s wineries, food and craft producers are on display at the annual two-day FlavorFest. Peruse the grounds of the PA Renaissance Faire as you sample vintages from more that 20 PA wineries; treats from regional caterers and restaurants; and handmade crafts from local artisans. There’s plenty of live entertainment on hand as well, with regional music acts, cooking demonstrations (including former White House chef John Moeller) and guided wine samplings all in store. The 8th annual FlavorFest kicks off today and continues on Sunday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. both days. Best of all, there is no admission cost at the gate.
Want more? You don’t have to wait til 3 p.m. to check out FLY’s live music, bar entertainment and performing arts calendars.
